Nonparametric Preference Completion
نویسندگان
چکیده
We consider the task of collaborative preference completion: given a pool of items, a pool of users and a partially observed item-user rating matrix, the goal is to recover the personalized ranking of each user over all of the items. Our approach is nonparametric: we assume that each item i and each user u have unobserved features xi and yu, and that the associated rating is given by gupfpxi, yuqq where f is Lipschitz and gu is a monotonic transformation that depends on the user. We propose a k-nearest neighbors-like algorithm and prove that it is consistent. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first consistency result for the collaborative preference completion problem in a nonparametric setting. Finally, we conduct experiments on the Netflix and Movielens datasets that suggest that our algorithm has some advantages over existing neighborhood-based methods and that its performance is comparable to some state-of-the art matrix factorization methods.

Nonparametric Demand Forecasting with Right Censored Observations
In a newsvendor inventory system, demand observations often get right censored when there are lost sales and no backordering. Demands for newsvendor-type products are often forecasted from censored observations. The Kaplan-Meier product limit estimator is the well-known nonparametric method to deal with censored data, but it is undefined beyond the largest observation if it is censored. To addr...
متن کاملBest nonparametric bounds on demand responses
This paper uses revealed preference inequalities to provide the tightest possible (best) nonparametric bounds on predicted consumer responses to price changes using consumer-level data over a finite set of relative price changes. These responses are allowed to vary nonparametrically across the income distribution. This is achieved by combining the theory of revealed preference with the semipara...

متن کاملPreference, perception, and task completion of open, menu-based, and directed prompts for call routing: a case study
Usability subjects’ success with and preference among Open, Menu-based and Directed Strategy dialogs for a call routing application in the consumer retail industry are assessed. Each subject experienced two strategies and was asked for a preference. Task completion was assessed, and subjective feedback was taken through Likert-scale questions. Preference and task completion scores were highest ...
متن کاملHeterogeneity and the nonparametric analysis of consumer choice: conditions for invertibility
This paper considers structural nonparametric random utility models for continuous choice variables. It provides sufficient conditions on random preferences to yield reducedform systems of nonparametric stochastic demand functions that allow global invertibility between demands and random utility components. Invertibility is essential for global identification of structural consumer demand mode...
